2022 – A Site for the Radial Engine
After lengthy negotiations, an important step seemed to have been achieved in 2022: the City of Düsseldorf made a site available to the Werstener Jonges in the green area “Auf’m Rott” for the planned radial engine monument. The “Werstener Deckel” had previously been considered as a possible location. However, the site that was ultimately proposed quickly met with criticism in Wersten.
Agreement with the City of Düsseldorf
Many residents were dissatisfied with the proposed location:
- They felt that the site was not appropriate for such a monument, particularly because of its immediate proximity to the glass and paper recycling containers.
- The location was also considered too far away from the actual crash site at “Am Brückerbach”.
The proposed site
The larger rectangle shows the 2 × 2 metre load-distributing foundation slab. The smaller rectangle marks the planned footprint of the monument, measuring 1.5 × 1.5 metres.
What happened next ?
The discussion about the location was only the beginning. In 2023, the radial engine project began to take concrete shape.
